Martineau Recreational Trails in Paul Bunyan State Forest offer excellent Class I & II ATV trails, plus many miles of forest roads for OHVs, and a bonus of over 90 miles of OHM trails. Be warned that the OHM only trails are for experienced motorcycle riders due to the high level of difficulty in some areas. There is a good full menu and beverage restuarant and campground located on the south side of the forest. Trails also connect to Akeley, MN.
I stayed at the Mantrap Lakes Campground in June, which was nice and more affordable than Itasca State Park Camgrounds. No electricity available but plenty of sites on a Thursday night to choose from. If I had a boat to get on the water I could have made a full day out of it.
I hunt and dirt bike and four wheeler ride all over this place! This is a great place to go. But not during hunting season all the good spots are taken
Enjoy this park in all seasons as each has its own unique beauty & animal activity, make sure you have a current paper map & plenty of daylight to explore!
It's got a nice play ground for little kids and the beach is nice.
